Since 2010 Chris Boïcos Fine Arts has invited a number of photographers and artists from Greece and abroad to Paxos to discover and enjoy the island and be inspired by its natural beauty and its people. The photos and artwork produced by the artists during and after their residencies have always been exhibited the year after at the Old Schoolhouse in Loggos, at the CBFA gallery in Gaios and in 2014 at the Torri e Merli hotel (Jean-Christophe Ballot).

Eight years later a considerable body of work inspired by and about Paxos has been created in a great variety of styles and techniques - a wealth of imagery probably unrivalled by any other Greek island in the same period.

The current exhibition brings together six foreign photographers - Jean-Christophe Ballot, Tina Merandon, Kevin Price, Jean-Manuel Simoes, Gabriel Stauffer, Vivian van Blerk - one collage artist - Jorge Rodriguez de Rivera

- and three Paxiot photographers - Giorgos Angelis, Dimitris Kintzios, Spiros Kolovos– who provide us with ten distinctive and very personal visions of the island. The richness and variety in their themes – olive groves, houses, cafés, churches, icons, architectural details, street scenes, cats, seascapes, water surfaces, portraits of Paxiots and tourists – as well as in their styles and techniques – silver gelatin prints, selenium prints, ink jet prints, superimposition, collage, black and white, color and tinted photography – are a testimony to the extraordinary possibilities our island holds for the creative artist.

Beyond the original group of CBFA photographers we will also be exhibiting the most recent and more conceptual photographic work produced on the island by the Berlin-based artists brought together in June 2018 by the Paxos Contemporary Art Project of Marina Tomacelli Filomarino, notably Michael Sebastian Haas and Jewgeni Roppel.

Depuis 2010 Chris Boïcos Fine Arts invite des photographes et des artistes grecs et étrangers à découvrir l’île de Paxos, et à s’inspirer des ses beautés naturelles et ses habitants. Les photos et les œuvres d’art crées par les artistes durant ou après leur séjour sur l’île ont ensuite été exposées à la vielle école de Loggos, à la galerie de Gaios et en 2014 à l’hôtel Torri e Merli (Jean-Christophe Ballot).

Un nombre considérable d’œuvres ayant pour sujet l’île de Paxos ont ainsi été crées en huit ans dans une grande variété de styles et de techniques – un trésor d’images probablement sans rival dans aucune autre île grecque dans la même période.

La présente exposition réunit six photographes étrangers - Jean-Christophe Ballot, Tina Merandon, Kevin Price, Jean-Manuel Simoes, Gabriel Stauffer, Vivian van Blerk – un collagiste - Jorge Rodriguez de Rivera – et trois photographes paxiotes - Giorgos Angelis, Dimitris Kintzios, Spiros Kolovos – chacun avec sa propre vision de l’île. La richesse et la variété de leurs sujets – oliveraies, maison de village, cafés, églises, icones, détails d’architecture, scènes de rue, chats, marines, vagues, portraits de Paxiotes et de touristes – ainsi que la variété de styles et des techniques – épreuves argentiques, épreuves de sélénium, épreuves en jet d’encre, surimpositions, collages, photos en noir et blanc, en couleur et tirages rehaussés à l’aquarelle – sont les témoins des extraordinaires et multiples facettes de notre île et de la fascination qu’elle exerce sur les esprits créateurs.
